26 Yemeni Families Displaced in One Week of September

 

The United Nations-affiliated International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Thursday the displacement of 26 Yemeni families during the past week. In its weekly displacement report, the organization stated that it documented the displacement of 26 Yemeni families, representing a total of 156 individuals, from September 3 to September 9.According to IOM's report,  the total number of displaced individuals from January 1 to September 9, 2023, reached 4,231 families, representing 25,386 individuals.

 

International and local organizations called on donor countries on Thursday to increase humanitarian funding to meet the Yemen people's needs. This came in a joint statement issued by seven UN agencies, 31 international organizations, and 60 local Yemeni organizations. The organizations stated in the joint statement that despite the magnitude of humanitarian needs, reduced funding allocations continue to raise concerns of the humanitarian community in Yemen. According to the statement, a massive funding gap has steadily increased over the past five years, exacerbating the situation.

 

On Thursday, Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received two letters from Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi, Saudi media reported. The messages were about bilateral relations and ways to support and enhance them in various fields. The Saudi-Iran ties have seen a remarkable improvement over the last months thanks to the China-led negotiations between Tehran and Riyadh.

 

Yemen's Iran-backed Ansar Allah (Houthi) members left for Riyadh Thursday on their first publicly announced visit to Saudi Arabia, raising hopes of progress towards ending the conflict. An Omani plane carrying the Houthi delegation and five officials from mediator Oman headed towards the Saudi capital for what a Houthi government official said would be a five-day visit. Yemen was plunged into war when the Houthis took over Sanaa in September 2014, prompting the Saudi-led intervention the following March. Opens talks between Saudi Arabia began in April this year when the Saudi ambassador to Yemen visited Sanaa.

 

Saudi Arabia's Defence Ministry executed two military personnel who were accused of committing treason, the Saudi Press Agency said on Thursday. The two were identified as pilot Majed bin Mousa Awad and Chief Sergeant Yousef bin Reda Hassan Al Azouni. They were arrested in 2017. Both of them were charged with committing military treason and failing to preserve the national interests. The two were executed on Thursday in the Taif region.
