A Senior Houthi commander dies in Sanaa
The Ansar Allah (Houthi) group on Sunday announced the death of the Air and Defense Forces commander, Ahmed Ali Hassan Al-Hamzi, in the capital, Sana'a. The Houthi-run Saba Agency quoted an obituary by the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff Presidency, saying that Al-Hamzi died after illness. The statement did not mention the nature of the disease. Al-Hamzi hails from the Marran district of Saada province, which is the stronghold of the Houthi group, and he was appointed the commander of the Houthi Air and Defense Forces in 2019.
A suspected Al-Qaeda attack in Abyan province on Saturday killed at least two fighters loyal to the Southern Transitional Council (STC), and five others were injured. According to media reports, an improvised explosive device targeted military vehicles belonging to the STC's 3rd Support and Reinforcement Brigade in Mudia of Abyan province. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
The United Nations on Sunday announced that the process of transferring oil from the decaying Safer tanker is in its final stages, with more than 70% of the oil being moved to the replacement ship."Today, 71% of the Safer tanker's oil (824,179 barrels) has been offloaded," said Achim Steiner, director of the United Nations Development Programme.
A fire broke out on Saturday in an "African" refugee camp in Ma'rib province, northeastern Yemen. The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons' Camps in Marib said a fire erupted in the "Ghosn" camp, which accommodates African refugees, in Al-Wadi District, Governor of Marib. The source said the fire destroyed all the families' property without human losses.
