Attacks on Abha and King Khalid Airports Kill Three, Injure 36 as Coalition Destroys Launch Platform in Sanaa
Three people were killed and 36 others injured in two attacks targeting facilities at Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia, according to the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), as a new wave of missile attacks escalates against the Kingdom.
GACA said the two attacks targeted facilities at Abha and King Khalid international airports, with emergency teams and relevant authorities responding under established emergency procedures.
The attack on Abha International Airport killed two female residents and injured 28 Saudi citizens and foreign residents, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
At King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, one foreign resident was killed and eight people were injured, including five Saudi citizens.
The attacks also caused material damage to airport facilities, while the injured were transferred to hospitals for treatment.
Coalition Destroys Ballistic Missile Launch Platform in Sanaa
Separately, the Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced that it had destroyed a ballistic missile launch platform in Sanaa that it said had been used in the attack on Riyadh.
The coalition said the platform was destroyed in Sanaa while it was being prepared for an imminent attack against Saudi Arabia.
The announcement followed an earlier coalition statement saying its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile north of Riyadh. At the time, the coalition said its intelligence systems were tracking the launch platform in Sanaa and that it would be destroyed.
The latest announcement indicates that the platform tracked following the attack was subsequently located and struck in Sanaa.
Background: Missile Escalation Amid Operation “Dawn of Yemen”
Sheba Intelligence previously reported an escalation in Houthi missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s interim capital, Aden.
The attacks included a ballistic missile intercepted north of Riyadh and another launched toward Khamis Mushait, while authorities in Aden reported that Aden International Airport had been targeted with ballistic missiles.
At the same time, the coalition said it was tracking missile launch platforms and identified Sanaa, Saada and Amran as areas from which Houthi missile threats were being launched.
The escalation comes as Operation “Dawn of Yemen” continues, with Yemeni government forces advancing on several fronts, including in Marib, Al-Jawf and the Bab al-Mandab area.
