Bin Aziz Says Iran Continues Smuggling Weapons to Houthis in Yemen

 

The Chief of the General Staff and Commander of Joint Operations, Major General Saghir bin Aziz took part in the U.S. Army Forces Conference organized by the U.S. Central Command, with the participation of delegations from friendly countries, the state-run Saba News Agency reported on Sunday. Bin Aziz said Iran continues to smuggle advanced weapons to the Houthis to threaten the security and stability of Yemen, the region, and international navigation. He indicated that all the anti-Houthi forces are fighting a battle against the Houthi group to restore the state and end the coup in order to fulfil the aspirations of Yemenis. He added true peace in Yemen will not be achieved unless the international community takes firm positions and measures towards the Houthi group militias and compel them to the option of permanent peace based on the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216. Houthis took over power in 2015, forcing the UN-recognized government to flee the country.

 

The demining MASAM project announced Sunday that its field teams have cleared 730 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices during the first week of October. In a statement by the project, it said that the demining teams had removed five anti-personnel mines, 105 anti-tank mines, 617 unexploded ordnance, and three explosive devices since the beginning of the current month. Since the launch of the MASAM project in June 2018, it has cleared 417,833 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices which were planted since the breakout of the war in 2016.

 

Houthi shelling killed one child and injured three other family members, local sources said on Sunday.   The sources identified the child as Fatima Munir whose house was hit by Houthi shelling in Al-Dawah neighborhood in eastern Taiz. The three injuries are Fatima’s father, mother and sister. Houthi fighters continue attempting to advance in Taiz province, causing many civilian deaths and injuries.

 

The Houthi group announced the sudden death of one of its prominent leaders, without providing any details or circumstances surrounding his death.Houthi media outlets reported the death Yahya Hassan Ismail Al-Madani, the brother of the leader Yusuf Al-Madani, who is close to the group's leader and is included in the U.S. sanctions list.

The Israeli death toll after the surprise attack by the Gaza-based Hamas on communities in the country’s south has risen to at least 600, including 44 soldiers, Israeli authorities said on Sunday. Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza, killing so far at least 370 people. Israel said more than 100 Israeli citizens, including women and children, were believed to have been abducted at gunpoint by Hamas to Gaza.
