Houthi Movement Chief Says U.S. Obstructed a Yemen-Saudi Peace Agreement
The United States obstructed a peace agreement between the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group and the Saudi-led Arab Coalition, the Houthi movement chief Abdulmalek Al-Houthi said in a televised speech on Tuesday.
Al-Houthi said the Americans threatened that the war in Yemen would return because of the group's involvement in the Israel-Gaza war that broke out on October 7.
He stated that the United States "put pressure on us through direct threats, the return of war with the coalition, obstructing the agreement with the coalition after it was imminent, and obstructing humanitarian aid." The Saudi-Houthi direct peace talks began in April this year.
However, he said his group will not pay attention to the American pressure and threats,and such threats will not stop them them from supporting the Palestinian people. The grouphas fired a barrage of drones and missiles at Israel over the last two weeks. The majority of the missiles and drones were intercepted or fell short.
On Wednesday, the Houthi claimed responsibility for shooting down an American drone over the Red Sea off Yemen. The group used the Iranian Khordad-3 Air Defense System, an informed source told Sheba Intelligence.
Al-Houthi threatened that the missile and drone attacks on Israel will continue, saying the Israeli ships in the Red Sea will also be targeted. Lately, the group has deployed military reinforcements in Al-Hudaydah and Taiz, preparing for escalations in Yemeni territories off the Red Sea.
