The Ansar Allah (Houthi) fighters attempted Saturday to advance in Al-Dhale province, prompting fierce clashes with the pro-government joint forces, local military sources said. One pro-government soldier and an unknown number of Houthi fighters were killed.
The Houthi group launched a massive attack, which was repelled by the government's joint forces, causing heavy human and equipment losses on the group, according to local sources in Al-Dhale.
The sources added the Houthi group attempted to launch more than one offensive operation, and they began in the Al-Thokhab sector, northeast of Al-Hasha District, and expanded towards the Battar sector, northwest of Al Dhale.
Though the group used various types of offensive weapons in the operation, the units of the joint forces stationed on the front lines thwarted the attack, said the sources.
Houthi fighters have repeatedly attacked pro-government forces in Al-Dhale province, attempting to gain ground and expand towards southern Yemen. Last month, Pro-government troops stationed in the Al-Jab area, northwest of Al-Dhale province, thwarted an attempted advance by the Houthis. The group brought reinforcements from Ibb province before the attack. When they launched the operation, they used medium and light weapons, including mortar shells and RPG shells, to penetrate the fortifications of government forces.
Despite the regional and international efforts to end the conflict in Yemen, Houthis openly and secretly attempt to gain ground in many areas, including Al-Dhale Taiz and Marib, which risk exploding an all-out war in Yemen.
