International Coalition' to Counter Attacks on Shipping Lanes in the Making

An international coalition is about to be declared to counter the growing threats to maritime security in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea, informed sources told Sheba Intelligence on Saturday. 

The intensifying attacks by the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group on shipping lanes in the Red Sea have sparked a global concern and prompted countries, particularly in the West, to deploy more warships in the Red and Arabian seas. 

According to informed sources, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) has moved from the Arabian towards the Gulf of Aden, and the movements of the international forces, including the British and American, are part of their strategy to counter the rising threats to ships off Yemen. 

Today, Saturday, An American destroyer intercepted multiple drones in the Red Sea launched from Houthi-controlled territories inYemen, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said. The CENTCOM said, "The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS CARNEY... operating in the Red Sea, successfully engaged 14 unmanned aerial systems launched as a drone wave from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen."

Moreover, the Royal Navy's destroyer HMS Diamond (D34), deployed in the Red Sea, intercepted and downed an unidentified aerial drone in the early hours preceding Saturday, British Defense Minister Grant Shapps said on X on Saturday.

He added, "One Sea Viper missile was fired and successfully destroyed the target." He indicated the "ship recently arrived in the region to bolster international efforts to maintain maritime security."

Despite deploying Western warships in the region, shipping companies have not felt safe and have begun avoiding the Bab el-Mandeb off Yemen. 

On Friday, Denmark's A.P. Moller-Maersk paused its container shipments through Bab al-Mandab until further notice. On Saturday, the Swiss-based MSC and French shipping group CMA CGM did the same.
