IOM: 55,122 Yemenis Displaced Since the Start of This Year

 

 

A UN report has indicated that more than 26,000 Yemenis were displaced during the past week from the governorates of Al-Mahra and Hadramout (Eastern Yemen), which were affected by Cyclone Tej. In its weekly report, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated that 4,392 families, representing 26,352 individuals, were displaced at least once from October 22 to 28. According to the report, displacement occurred in Al-Mahra, with 3,749 families; Hadramout, with 607 families; and Marib, with 27 families. The report shows that the total number of displaced individuals has risen to 9,187 families since the beginning of the year, representing 55,122 individuals.

 

On Tuesday, Rashad Al-Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, discussed with Prime Minister Muaeen Abdulmalek problems related to the deterioration of services and the collapse of the national currency. The state-run Saba News Agency reported that the meeting was held in Aden and discussed the indicators of the Yemeni economy and the national currency, goods, basic service supplies, and electricity. The agency added that Al-Alimi was briefed on the government measures taken to improve economic performance in cooperation with regional allies and international partners.

 

Saudi Arabia's military has gone into a state of high alert following deadly clashes with Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis, sources familiar with the matter told Bomberg on Monday. Four Saudi soldiers died last week in the fight with Houthi forces in the mountainous southwestern Jazan Province on the border with Yemen, said the sources. Before the escalation, the two sides were on the cusp of a deal despite the death of four Bahraini soldiers serving in the Saudi coalition in a Houthi drone attack last month.

 

Saudi Arabia's Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during a meeting with a senior US official on Monday, Saudi media reported.Meeting Jake Sullivan, the US national security advisor, Prince Khalid reaffirmed the Kingdom's call to bring the fighting to a halt. On Yemen, Prince Khalid wrote: "We also discussed the Kingdom's efforts in Yemen to end the crisis and achieve peace."

 

Israeli troops pushed deeper into Gaza Tuesday, driving tanks and armored bulldozers through the rubble of shattered buildings. Israel said it had struck 300 targets during the fourth night of land operations in Gaza, where troops came under Hamas anti-tank and machine-gun fire.
