Yemen's Gas Company in Sanaa said Sunday an electrical short led to a fire and explosion in a gas trailer in the Company's yard, located near Aya roundabout in the country's capital city. Local sources told Sheba Intelligence that 15 people were injured and there was no death.
The sources added that many windows of the nearby houses were shattered, and the head of the trailer was found 50 meters away from the explosion scene.
The Ansar Allah (Houthi)-run interior ministry deployed traffic police on Marib Sreet in Sanaa and all the roads leading to the gas trailer explosion site to direct traffic and prevent drivers from approaching the fire scene.
The Company said the explosion will not affect the gas supply process in Sanaa, ensuring citizens that it has sufficient quantities of cooking gas that can fulfill their needs.
Yemen has seen recurring cooking gas crises since the war broke out in 2015. However, the gas supply began to stabilize last year when the Houthi group and the internationally recognized government of Yemen began a truce under the sponsorship of the United Nations. The gas ships kept flowing to Houthi-controlled ports in Hodeida, and the movement of gas trucks between Yemeni provinces became easier in line with the de-escalation the country had witnessed.
