More Than 40,000 People Displaced in Yemen’s Taiz Over Eight Days
TAIZ, Yemen — Displacement figures released by the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Taiz show that 5,799 families comprising 40,710 people were displaced between September 3 and 10, 2026.
Jabal Habashi recorded the largest number of departures, with 13,906 people leaving, followed by Al-Ma’afer with 9,203 and Maqbanah with 7,917. Together, the three districts accounted for approximately three-quarters of all recorded displacement during the period.
Other departures included 3,741 people from Mawza, 3,543 from Al-Wazi’iyah, and 1,465 from Mokha. A further 674 people arrived from Hays, Zabid and Bayt Al-Faqih in neighboring Hodeidah governorate, alongside smaller numbers displaced from other districts.
Al-Ma’afer received the largest number of displaced people, hosting 14,591 arrivals. It was followed by Jabal Habashiwith 7,149, Al-Wazi’iyah with 4,676, Al-Mudhaffar with 4,103, and Ash-Shamayatayn with 3,552. The remaining families were recorded across other districts in Taiz.
Several districts appeared as both places of origin and destinations, indicating overlapping displacement patterns, with residents leaving some areas while others within the same district received displaced families. The figures do not identify routes taken or provide village-level details of where families settled.
On September 10 alone, the unit recorded the displacement of 823 families comprising 5,761 people, according to its stated daily total—approximately 14% of all displacement registered over the eight days.
The scale of displacement points to substantial needs for shelter, food, water and basic services in receiving communities. The report provides no details on assistance delivered or the extent to which those needs have been met.
