Number of African Migrants Arriving in Yemen Declines
The United Nations International Organization for Migration announced on Monday that 1,169 African migrants entered Yemen in October, a 25% decrease compared to September 2023. The organization attributed the drop to the deployment of military checkpoints along several coasts to combat smugglers of migrants. Most migrants who arrived in Yemen in October entered through the shores of Shabwah. The organization explained that the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen and obstacles on the way to Saudi Arabia pushed many migrants to return to the Horn of Africa. According to the UN organization, a total of 93,526 migrants arrived in Yemen between January and September 2023.
The Houthi group carried out a new military maneuver under the name "Flood of Al-Aqsa." This is the fourth maneuver in a month. According to the Houthi-affiliated Saba News Agency, the Houthi soldiers from the Border Guard conducted extensive maneuvers using live ammunition and various types of weapons. The group has not disclosed the location of the maneuver. Observers say that the Houthi group is capitalizing on the situation in Gaza to rally people to the front lines under the pretext of defending Al-Aqsa and fighting against Israel, while simultaneously mobilizing its fighters to the fronts in Marib and Taiz.
The Republic of Yemen expressed its condemnation and denunciation of the continued aggression by the Israeli occupation and its criminal practices against the Palestinian people. A statement by the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack on civilian institutions constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law, all international laws, and norms." It called on the international community to break the "shameful silence" regarding these crimes and practices and to work towards a ceasefire, preventing further atrocities against the Palestinian people. The Foreign Ministry reiterated that the only way to achieve security and peace in the region is by establishing an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem, in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The lives of 36 babies at Gaza’s Al Shifa Hospital were hanging in the balance on Tuesday, according to medical staff there who said there was no clear mechanism to move them despite an Israeli effort to supply incubators for an evacuation. Three of the original 39 premature babies have already died since Gaza’s biggest hospital ran out of fuel at the weekend to power generators that had kept their incubators going. The Gaza Strip has been under a total Israeli blockade since Hamas launched an attack on Israel on Oct. 7. An Israeli ground incursion since then has brought fighting to streets around the hospital in the center of Gaza City in the north of the strip.
