The Ansar Allah (Houthi) group in Yemen fired on Monday a fresh barrage of drones and missiles at Israel as the Gaza-Israel war enters the second month.
This is the second time in a week the Houthis officially declare their responsibility for attacking Israel with drones and missiles in support of Palestinian fighters in Gaza.
Late Monday, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said on X, “The Yemeni armed forces launched a batch of drones during the past hours at various sensitive targets of the Israeli enemy in the occupied territories.”
According to the Saree, the latest attack led to a temporary halt of activity for several hours at Israeli military bases and airports. Israel has not commented on the Houthi statement.
The Houthi group is part of the anti-Israel “axis of resistance” which includes Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq.
Last week, the Israeli military said that it intercepted a surface-to-surface long-range ballistic missile and two cruise missiles that were fired by Yemen's Houthis.
Though the group continues to fire missiles and drones at Israel, a military expert told Sheba Intelligence the Houthi drones and missiles either fall in the sea or are intercepted, which means that they cannot cause a substantial destruction in Israel or pose a threat to the Israeli army.
According to the expert, the failure of missiles to reach their targets may be attributed to the poor quality of missile fuel or a software glitch. Another reason is the failure of the drones to reach the target and send accurate coordinates to the missiles.
The ongoing war broke out when Hamas fighters crossed from Gaza into southern Israel on October 7, killing some 1,400 people, according to Israeli officials. Over 10,000 people in Gaza, most of them children and women, have been killed in retaliatory Israeli strikes.
