IOM: 56,058 Yemenis Displaced Since January
The International Organization for Migration stated that 29 Yemeni families were displaced during the past week in several Yemeni provinces despite the relative calm in the country. In its weekly report, the organization mentioned that its displacement tracking matrix documented the displacement of 29 Yemeni families, comprising 174 individuals, from November 5 to November 11. It noted that most displaced people came from Marib, Shabwah, Al-Hudaydah, Taiz, and Al-Dhale. The organization pointed out that the total number of displaced individuals from the beginning of the year until November 11 has risen to 9,343 families, representing 56,058 people. Over 4.5 million people have been displaced since the war broke out in Yemen in 2014.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched a $16 million project to develop livelihoods, sustainable management of agricultural lands, and preserve biodiversity in three Yemeni governorates: Socotra, Dhamar, and Al-Mahra. The organization said in a statement that the project targets 160,000 beneficiaries, divided equally between males and females over 7 years. The Yemeni Minister of Water and Environment, Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, said, “The project will provide environmentally friendly job opportunities in reserve areas and rehabilitate 25,000 hectares of natural reserve land and 75,000 hectares of pasture land and forest development in three reserves.” According to UNESCO, Socotra Island is among the four most important islands in the world in terms of biological and plant diversity and is home to thousands of endemic plants, animals and birds.
Three members of the security forces affiliated with the Houthi group were killed, and two others were injured in an ambush carried out by tribal gunmen in the Kharbat Hammadan area on the outskirts of Al-Hazm city in Al-Jawf province in North Yemen, reports said on Saturday. According to local sources, the ambush was executed by gunmen from the Hammadan tribes late on Friday evening, resulting in the death of three Houthi security members and the injury of two others. The sources added that the ambush was in retaliation for the killing of a citizen from Al-Jawaf in a Houthi checkpoint.
An official of the Hamas-run health ministry in the Gaza Strip said more than 80 people were killed on Saturday in double Israeli strikes on the Jabalia refugee camp, reported the AFP. “At least 50 people” were killed in an Israeli strike at dawn on the UN-run Al-Fakhura school in the camp. A separate strike on another building in the camp on Saturday killed 32 people from the same family. Over 12000 Gazans have been killed in Israeli airstrikes since the start of the war on October 7.
Hezbollah and Israel traded rocket and missile fire in areas near the Lebanese-Israeli border on Saturday, officials on both sides said, in the latest flare-up of violence. The Iran-backed Hezbollah said it shot down an Israeli drone near the border in the early hours of Saturday. Israel’s military said it intercepted a missile fired at an Israeli drone. Reuters could not verify either statement. Lebanese officials said an Israeli air strike hit a building in an industrial area near the town of Nabatieh, one of the deepest Israeli strikes inside Lebanese territory since fighting began last month. Hezbollah released a series of statements early on Saturday saying it had hit Israeli military sites and troops in areas along the border and caused casualties.
