Police authorities in several Yemeni provinces controlled by the UN-recognized government documented 150 cases of suicide in 2023 and 23 cases of attempted suicide.

According to the annual statistics issued by the police departments, 44 suicide cases happened in Taiz, 25 cases in Marib, 24 cases in Aden, 15 cases in Shabwah, 10 cases in Hadhramaut Alwadi, 9 cases in Abyan, 8 cases in coastal Hadramout, 6 cases in Al-Hudaydah, 5 cases in Al-Dhale, and 2 cases in Al-Mahra.

The Police Sector of the Ministry of Interior indicated that diseases and psychological disorders were the cause of several suicide cases. The weak religious and moral deterrent was another cause for many of the suicide cases. Other causes included family disputes, weak personality, and the desire to escape life troubles.

Since 2015, Yemen has been confronting the worst humanitarian crisis, with millions of families in need of support and protection. The lack of mental health providers and mental health support makes the situation worse, with the number of mental health providers being 0.2% per 100,000 in Yemen, according to reports.
