Rights Organization Says Houthis Have Issued 550 Death Sentences Against Opponents Since 2017

 

The Sam Organization for Rights and Freedoms revealed that the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group has issued approximately 550 death sentences against its political opponents since 2017. This came in a statement on the second anniversary of the execution of nine civilians of Hodeidah in Al-Tahrir Square in Sanaa on September 18, 2021. The organization stated that the Houthi continued issuance of death sentences against opponents raises concern among human rights activists and the families of the victims who are still subject to show trial.

 

The World Bank called Tuesday for the urgent need to take international measures to support Yemen, which is facing a humanitarian and economic crisis due to the war that began nine years ago. The security authorities in Hadramaut Governorate, east of the country, thwarted a drug shipment that was on its way to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a government source said on Tuesday. The Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior said that an attempt to smuggle a shipment of hashish estimated at about 447 kilograms was foiled. The source added that the shipment was hidden behind the side tanks of the truck that was heading to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

The Gulf Co-operation Council has called on Iraq to address the consequences of the country's top court ruling, which annuls the law ratifying a 2012 agreement with Kuwait to regulate maritime navigation on a crucial waterway in the Arabian Gulf. Earlier this month, the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court said the 2013 law which was issued by the parliament to ratify the Khor Abdullah agreement, is unconstitutional. It should have been ratified with the approval of two-thirds of parliament, not a simple majority, judges said in the ruling.
