Shelling Kills 3 People, Wounding 15 Others in Taiz

 

Local sources said on Friday that eight people, including women and children, have been killed or injured in artillery shelling on a village in Mocha district of Taiz province. According to the sources, the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group was responsible for the shelling. The attack left three dead and 15 injured. 

 

On Thursday, gunmen affiliated with the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group assaulted Yemeni journalist Mujali Al-Samadi near his home in Sana'a. Samadi has written Facebook posts criticizing the Houthi group, sparking Houthi supporters' anger. After the attack, Samadi posted photos showing injury to his face and blood in his mouth. The gunmen pledged to attack him if he kept writing. 

 

On Thursday, the Yemeni Ministry of Interior declared the security and military units seized a new camp of Al-Qaeda in the southern province of Abyan. The Ministry of Interior, on its website, stated, "The security and military units have successfully gained control over the camp of Al-Jinan in the Mudiyah district of Abyan province." Al-Qaeda operatives are active in some rural areas of Mudiyah district of Abyan province. 

 

Saudi Arabia is considering a Chinese bid to build a nuclear power plant, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. The paper reported that the state-owned China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) has bid to build the facility near the border with Qatar. Riyadh previously looked to partner with the United States to establish a civilian nuclear program. However, US officials are concerned it may pave the way for Riyadh to start creating nuclear weapons.

 

The BRICS summit has reiterated its support for Yemen's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity and a political solution to the war in the country. In its closing statement, the summit praised the positive role of all parties involved in reaching a ceasefire and seeking a political solution to end the conflict. The conflict began in 2015 when the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group toppled Yemen's UN-recognized government.
