UN Envoy to Yemen Arrives in Aden

 

 

The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, arrived Tuesday in Aden in South Yemen as part of the UN-led peace efforts to push the local rivals in Yemen to agree on a permanent ceasefire. Media sources said Grundberg arrived at Aden Airport coming from the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The UN envoy is scheduled to meet with the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and other Yemeni officials to discuss peace efforts.

 

Yemen's Foreign Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak met with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in Doha on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. The two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance and develop bilateral ties to benefit the Yemeni and Qatari people. The two officials reviewed various aspects of cooperation, including activating the joint ministerial committee between the two countries, which last met in 2013 in Sana'a, and enhancing political consultation mechanisms. Yemen also requested additional facilities for Yemenis residing in Qatar.

 

The maritime rescue team left Hodedia after completing its mission of transferring oil from the dilapidated oil ship off Yemen's Hodeida coast. The decaying Safer ship has been stuck since the breakout of war in 2015, and it contained over a million barrels of oil. The oil was moved to a replacement vessel in Yemen this month.

 

The Marib province police said on Tuesday that Doctors Without Borders has informed them in official letters that it does not need any security escorts for its employees or field teams during the movement of its team on the international road in the province. The security source indicated that the situation that the country is going through requires security coordination between security authorities and foreign aid workers during their movement. Yesterday, unknown men kidnapped two foreign aid workers in Marib. The Doctors Without Borders confirmed the kidnapping.

 

Two Saudi Arabian air force members survived a plane crash during a training mission on Monday. A Royal Saudi Air Force Tornado fighter jet crashed during a routine training mission at the King Abdulaziz Air Base. Ministry of Defence spokesman Brig Gen Turki Al Malki told Saudi state-run media. Both pilots on board escaped unhurt after using the ejector seats on board.
