UN Envoy to Yemen Condemns Drone Attack on Saudi Border

 

The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, condemned the Monday Houthi drone attack, which resulted in the loss of two Bahraini military personnel in Saudi Arabia and caused several injuries. Grundberg said Tuesday, "Any renewal of offensive military escalation risks plunging Yemen back into a cycle of violence and undermines ongoing peace efforts. Continued flare-ups of fighting demonstrate the fragility of the situation in Yemen." He indicated that Grundberg warned that the minimum level of trust required for constructive dialogue is hard-earned but easily lost. He emphasized the need for decisive steps towards a sustainable nationwide ceasefire and the resumption of an inclusive political process to end the conflict. The United States, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen condemned the Monday Houthi drone attack, saying such an act would derail the peace process in Yemen.

 

In commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the September 26th Revolution, the Yemeni National Army forces organized a military parade in the province of Marib, located in eastern Yemen. The media center of the armed forces reported that Marib province witnessed a majestic military parade celebrating the Yemeni Revolution in the presence of Marib Governor Sultan Al-Arada.

 

Iran's top leader has given the go-ahead for direct talks with the US over its nuclear program, days after Washington said it blocked Tehran's top diplomat from visiting, media reports said. The UK-based Amwaj.media, reported that Iran wants to resuscitate negotiations over bringing the United States back into the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, where they were when they fell apart about a year ago. The report said top Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri is looking to meet US special envoy Brett McGurk in Oman in the coming weeks. 

 

The First Military Region in Hadhramaut province organized a military parade in the presence of the First Military Region Command on Tuesday, celebrating the 61 anniversary of 26 September Revolution. The Region's Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Amer Abdullah bin Hatyan, said this "glorious day will remain a symbol of honor. And honor to the righteous martyrs … who water the country's soil with their pure and innocent blood." The 26 September Revolution broke out in 1962, ending the Imamate rule in Yemen.

 

Saudi Arabia was officially granted Approved Destination Status by China on Tuesday, allowing Chinese citizens to travel to the Kingdom on group tours, the Saudi Press Agency said. A signing ceremony took place in Beijing in the presence of Saudi Ambassador to China Abdulrahman bin Ahmed Al-Harbi, Saudi Tourism Authority CEO Fahd Hamidaddin, and China's Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism Du Jiang. According to the SPA, the agreement will boost connectivity between the two countries and open opportunities across the tourism sector.
