Yemen Calls for Establishing Independent Palestinian State
Mass protests have continued in many Yemeni cities, expressing solidarity with the people in Gaza and denouncing the brutal Israeil strikes that have killed about 1800 civilians besides thousands of injuries.
On Thursday,The Yemen's Presidential Council expressed support for the Palestinian people, emphasizing that Palestinians have the right to have an independent sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital according to international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
For its part, the Presidency of Yemen's Shura Council condemned "the aggressive actions of the Zionist entity on the Gaza Strip," demanding that the air strikes stop immediately. It called on the UN Security Council to intervene to protect Palestinian civilians and prevent Israel from continuing its crimes of murder and displacing people.
Several political parties in Yemen also displayed solidarity with the besieged people in Gaza. The Nasserist Unionist People's Party praised the Palestinian fighters' resistance, saying that Palestinian steadfastness is a source of pride.
Today, thousands of pro-Palestine protestors took to the streets in Sanaa, Taiz, Ma'rib, Al-Mahra, Dhamar, and Sa'ada.
It has been seven days since violence escalated in Gaza and Israel. On Sunday, Hamas fighters launched a surprise attack against Israel and broke into Israeli settlements bordering Gaza. Since then, Israel has flattened many neighborhoods in Gaza, threatening to conduct a ground invasion.
