Yemen's Houthis Fire More Missiles at Israel
The Houthi group has launched ballistic missiles on various Israel targets, including in the Red Sea city of Eilat, the group's military spokesperson said on Tuesday. The launch came "after 24 hours of another military operation by drones on the same Israeli targets," according to the spokesperson. The Israeli military said that it intercepted a missile near the Red Sea.Israel said it used its "Arrow" aerial defencesystem to shoot down a missile on Tuesday after sirens sounded in the port city of Eilat. Israel says that the projectile did not enter its territory.
The Security Council today decided to renew for 12 months a travel ban and assets freeze imposed on specific individuals and entities in Yemen and extend for 12 months the mandate of the Panel of Experts tasked with assisting the Council's Yemen sanctions committee. It also decided to extend until 15 December 2024 the mandate of the Panel of Experts on Yemen and expressed its intention to review the mandate and take appropriate action regarding the further extension no later than 15 November 2024. The Council requested the Secretary-General to take measures to re-establish the Panel of Experts, in consultation with the sanctions committee until 15 December 2024.
The Yemeni Cabinet, on Tuesday, discussedin a meeting in Aden the national currency's exchange rate, mechanisms for its control, and the integration between fiscal and monetary policies in this regard, according to the state-run Saba News Agency. The Cabinet received a report from the Deputy Minister of Finance on salary disbursements, noting that disbursement procedures are carried out within the framework of financial reforms, including comprehensive examination, auditing, and thorough reviews of paying salaries to central and local authority employees through banks. The Deputy Minister of Finance clarified that this corrective measure is part of the serious steps to implement comprehensive reforms in financial, economic, and administrative aspects, as well as combating corruption in state institutions.
Yemen's Houthis have vowed to attack Israeli ships in the strategic waters of the Red Sea and to continue striking Israel with missiles and drones as long as the war in Gaza continues. The Houthis, who are in control of Yemen's capital and some regions amid a civil war, claimed responsibility for a series of missiles and drones that the US Navy and Israeli defence systems intercepted. The Houthi movement leader Abdul-Malik Al Houthi vowed on Tuesday to continue with the attacks and to strike Israeli ships passing through the strategic trade and oil tankers' routes. "We will continue to plan for additional operations. We can't stop," he said.
