Over 660 Suspected Cholera Cases Reported in Marib Since January 2023
The Health and Population Office in Yemen's Marib province reported approximately 667 suspected cases of cholera since the beginning of the current year. This figure was declared during a meeting at the Health Office in Marib on Monday. The meeting involved representatives from the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the International Organization for Migration, and the Health Office Director in Marib.
Yemen's Foreign Minister, Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak, met with the British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, today to discuss the developments in Yemen and the region, focusing on peace efforts and reviving the political process. According to the state-runSaba News Agency, the two officialsdiscussed the necessary developmental support and capacity building in vital sectors to enhance the government's efficiency and performance in facilities and institutions. Bin Mubarak reiterated Yemen's condemnation of the Israeli occupation forces' aggression, particularly the targeting of innocent civilians, including children and women, hospitals, schools, places of worship, and the commission of atrocities and crimes against humanity. He urged the international community to take an ethical stance in line with humanitarian principles and values, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the punishment of war criminals responsible for these acts.
The World Health Organization documented2,978 cases of deaths and infections related to measles, diphtheria, whooping cough, cholera, and seasonal influenza have been recorded since last January. The report indicated 167 suspected cases of diphtheria, most of which were in the districts of Yareem, Radman, and Al-Qafr in the northeast of the province. The report documented 813 suspected cases of cholera from January until the end of October. Most of the suspected cholera cases were reported in the districts of Al-Sada and Jabalaa. A total of 1,584 suspected cases of measles were reported, with 16 deaths, mainly in the directorates of Yareem, Al-Adin, Al-Qafr, and As-Sabra.
At least eight pro-Iran fighters were killed in US strikes on eastern Syria, a war monitor said Monday, after Washington announced the raids a day earlier in response to attacks on American forces. The toll is "eight pro-Iran fighters dead, including at least one Syrian and Iraqi nationals," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, following the strikes late Sunday on the Mayadeen and Albu Kamal areas of Syria's eastern Deir Ezzor province. It is the third time in less than three weeks that the US military has targeted locations in Syria it said were tied to Iran, which supports various armed groups that Washington blames for a spike in attacks on its forces in the Middle East.
The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said Monday the death toll at Al-Shifa Hospital mounted to 34 since the weekend as the facility suffered fuel shortages. The latest toll included 27 adult intensive care patients and seven babies. The hospitals in the center of the heaviest north Gaza fighting have been forced out of service amid shortages and combat, the Hamas-run health ministry said Monday. The Israeli army pushed on with their campaign to destroy the Hamas Organization in Gaza, leaving over 11,000 dead.
