Military Commander Survives Assassination Attempt in Taiz

 

A pro-government military commander survived an assassination attempt today, Sunday, in Al-Mawasit District of Taiz province. Local sources said an unknown gunman opened fire on the Chief of Staff of the 35th Armored Brigade, Colonel Muhammad Al-Jaefi, in Al-Ain Market in Al-Mawasit District. Al-Jaefi was wounded in the attack. The gunman fled the scene. In August, unidentified gunmen assassinated one of the officers of the investigation committee in the case of the assassination of the head of the World Food Program Office in Yemen, Muayad Hamidi, who was shot dead in Taiz in July.

 

Rashad Al-Alimi, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, arrived in Al-Mahra province today, Sunday, as the tropical cyclone "Tej" keeps approaching the eastern provinces of Yemen. The state-run Saba News Agency said  Al-Alimi arrived in Al-Mahra this evening and will hold a meeting with the local authorities, security, and military agencies in the province to review the preparations and measures taken to mitigate the effects of the storm, face potential damages, and protect lives and properties. The Early Warning Center urged citizens in Al-Mahra, Socotra, and Hadramout provinces to take maximum precautions and be vigilant ahead of the tropical condition, which began affecting Socotra Governorate today, accompanied by heavy rainfall and increased wind speeds in coastal areas and regional waters.

 

On the 16th day of its war on Gaza, Israel committed more massacres against civilians, especially in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Since the early morning of this Sunday, 163 Palestinians have been killed. Meanwhile, the Al-Qassam Brigades announced that they engaged with an Israeli armored force after it crossed the border fence by meters, destroying a tank and two bulldozers. Following dozens of massacres in the past 24 hours, the death toll in Gaza has risen to 4,741, including more than 1,873 children and 1,023 women. More than 1,400 Israelis have been killed since Ocotber 7.

 

The Arab League on Sunday highlighted the region's efforts to provide immediate support to the Palestinian people to mitigate the consequences of Israel's intensifying military operations in Gaza, Saudi Press Agency reported. The statement came during a joint press conference organized by the Arab League in partnership with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, held in Cairo to address the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Arab League Assistant Secretary-General Haifa Abu Ghazaleh said that children, women, and the elderly comprise 70 percent of the casualties in Gaza. The number of internally displaced individuals in the besieged enclave is estimated at 1 million, with 513,000 having sought refuge in facilities of UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

 

A recent ministerial meeting in Guangzhou paved the way for increased joint investment and collaboration between the Gulf countries and China. In a final communique issued on Sunday, the conferrers urged entrepreneurs from these regions to embark on reciprocal visits. According to the Saudi Press Agency, these trips aim to stimulate joint investment and foster partnerships among small and medium-sized enterprises in trade, investment, industrial communication, and innovation. Discussions revolved around the strategic economic and trade joint action plan, in alignment with the agreements reached during the initial Gulf-Chinese summit in Riyadh in December last year. The two parties expressed their enthusiasm to continue cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the national visions of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
