First Houthi Ground Assault Confirms Intelligence Warnings Over Al-Rayyan Tribal Mobilization

The first Houthi ground assault near the anti-Houthi tribal gathering in Al-Rayyan, Al-Jawf, has confirmed weeks of intelligence warnings published by Sheba Intelligence, which documented the group’s preparations to dismantle the tribal mobilization through coordinated security and military measures.

According to a military source, Houthi forces launched a large-scale attack using multiple weapon systems in an attempt to advance toward the Qanaw sector, east of Bir Al-Maraziq in Al-Hazm district. The assault was repelled by government forces stationed in Qanaw, whose personnel later released a statement confirming they had thwarted the attack.

While the clash marks the first direct military confrontation on the closest frontline to Al-Rayyan, Sheba Intelligence assesses that the operation is part of a broader campaign that has been developing for weeks rather than an isolated battlefield incident.

Since mid-June, Sheba Intelligence has published a series of exclusive reports documenting an unprecedented Houthi military buildup across Al-Jawf and neighboring Marib. Those reports revealed the deployment of ballistic missiles, drone launch platforms, reconnaissance assets, and thousands of additional fighters around Khabb wa Al-Sha’af, alongside expanded intelligence collection targeting tribal leaders.

The reports further concluded that the Houthis had shifted from attempts to politically and socially contain the Al-Rayyan movement toward a coordinated security and military strategy aimed at dismantling the tribal gathering. Intelligence obtained by Sheba indicated preparations for drone strikes against tribal figures, expanded surveillance around the encampment, and plans for limited ground operations designed to isolate the gathering and prevent it from evolving into a wider tribal uprising across northern Yemen.

The failed assault on Qanaw therefore represents more than a tactical battlefield engagement. It marks the first visible implementation of a strategy that Sheba Intelligence had previously identified, suggesting that the Houthis are now translating their security planning into operational military action around Al-Rayyan.
